SubWrap deforms the character through a wrap deformer, using the SkinCage as the wrap driver.
If the character mesh is wrapped directly to the low-resolution SkinCage, the cage edges can show through in the deformation and produce rough, uneven results.
The SubCage is a subdivided version of the SkinCage, created with Maya’s Subdiv Proxy function.
For smoother SubWrap deformation, AdvancedSkeleton first subdivides or poly-smooths the SkinCage. The character is then wrapped to this smoother SubCage instead of the original low-resolution cage.
Use the subdivided SubCage as the wrap driver when you want the cage to follow the model smoothly without visible low-resolution cage artifacts.
