Fit Skeleton

Fit Skeletons

Start from the fit-skeleton template that best matches the character before placing joints on the model.

Choose the fit-skeleton template that most closely matches the character. Common starting points include bird, biped, and quadruped templates.

Bird, biped, and quadruped fit skeleton examples
AdvancedSkeleton includes fit-skeleton templates for different body types, including bird, biped, and quadruped characters.

After loading a template, edit the fit skeleton to match the model's proportions, anatomy, and intended bend directions. The fit skeleton remains the source used when the rig is built or rebuilt.

Recommended scale

AdvancedSkeleton can work with models at many scales, but it is recommended to use centimeters and a practical real-world scale. For example, a character that is 170 cm tall should be about 170 Maya units when centimeters are used.

Maya has minimum and maximum scale ranges where tools and deformation work most efficiently, so avoid extremely tiny or extremely huge character scenes.
